Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo said considering the political and security situation in the country and the need to hold elections, he convened a meeting of state regional leaders.
President Mohamed said the conference will be held in Dhusamareb, the capital of Galmudug, and will run from February 1st to 3rd, 2021. He also convened an emergency meeting of members of both Houses of the Federal Parliament of Somalia on February 5, 2021, to brief them on the overall situation in the country and in particular the country’s elections.
The announcement of the conference came hours after President Mohamed met this afternoon with representatives of the international community to discuss the immediate challenges facing the election.
