Somali Foreign Minister Awad’s dismissal came less than 24 hours

Somali Foreign Minister Mohamed Abdirizak Mohamud Abubakar has been appointed, replacing former Foreign Minister Ahmed Isse Awad.

Awad’s dismissal came less than 24 hours after the Somali Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement expressing concern over the situation in Ethiopia, but Awad later said on Twitter that the report was unofficial, ”The decision was taken after office, Ahmed Awad, made a statement on Twitter.

Sources in Villa Somalia told the Somali Times, ”Thursday Awad had been replaced with Mohamed Abdirizak Abukar.




Awad’s was subsequently appointed an ambassador, but did not state to which country. The Minister did not however make a reference to the statement. Barely an hour after the statement appeared on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Twitter handle, it was pulled down and followed by the Minister’s remarks on his personal Twitter account dismissing the statement.

According to reliable sources in Villa Somalia, said that Farmajo and Fahad Yasin is behind sacking Awad. Fahad Yasin and Awad have been in conflict since early 2019. Fahad and Ahmed both know each other in Sudan since they studied Madaras and at the same time they used work in the United Nation.
