Somalia’s new prime minister announced same cabinet of former prime minister Hassan Ali Khaire on Monday evening in Mogadishu.

Fifteen of the new ministers are from the previous Cabinet, with Deputy Prime Minister Khadar Mohamed Gulaid, Finance Minister Abdirahman Duale Beyle, Foreign Minister Ahmed Isse Awad, and Health Minister Fowzia Abiikar Nur, Gamal Hassan Planning all holding on to their posts.

The new prime minister and his Cabinet will have a brief mandate, as the Horn of African country’s presidential and parliamentary elections are looming.

The Prime Minister will now proceed to the Lower House to seek approval for the new council of ministers. The new cabinet has its main job cut out – prepare the country for elections and oversee a transition to a new administration. Parliamentary elections start from November 1 culminating into the election of a new President on February 8.
