The outgoing President of the Federal Republic of Somalia Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo convened a meeting on Election Heads of State and the Benadir region. ”The conference, which will open on February 15 in Garowe, Somalia, is a culmination of the implementation of the agreement reached by the National Consultative Council in Mogadishu on 17 September 2020.
”The Somali Federal Government will continue to strengthen efforts and would discuss the issues with regard the foundation for the implementation of the agreement approved by the House of Representatives and the Upper House on 26 September 2020,” said a statement.
The leaders of the Federal Government of Somalia, the regional administrations and the Benadir region recently held a meeting in Dhusamareb, but failed to reach an agreement.
The conference comes as President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo’s constitutional term ended yesterday, and the holding of the conference has put pressure on the international community.
President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo is in charge until the leaders agree in the 2021 election.
