Somalia ambassador to United Nations Abukar Osman Bale
Somalia Ambassador to United Nations Abukar Osman Bale said that there are many countries that are ready to provide the Somali government with all kinds of weapons and people who are trained to use those weapons.
He pointed out that the lifting of the arms embargo on Somalia for the past 32 years will make it easier for Somalia to buy or receive modern weapons from its international friends.
“There are many countries that are friends of ours and are ready to provide weapons to the central government of Somalia, there are other countries that deal in weapons and how to buy them, that will facilitate your dialogue. You are entering or buying or receiving aid as there are no sanctions,” said Ambassador Abukar Osman Bale.
Also, the ambassador continued to underline that the lifting of the arms embargo is a big day for Somalia, as many countries can provide all kinds of weapons to Somalia.
“The sanction was a sanction for every country who wanted to give Somalia weapons. They could not give it to us and they were afraid that there would be a problem with the Security Council. Now the UN is making it easier for many friendly countries to provide and train the people who would use their weapons,” Ambassador Abukar Osman Bale added.
The Federal Government of Somalia has promised that the weapons purchased will not fall into the hands of the enemy. The various sections of the community have welcomed the move to lift the arms embargo from Somalia, praising the Government led by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud.
