The Somali government on Tuesday banned protests in Mogadishu due to rising Covid-19 cases and security threats in Somalia.

“Any protests in Mogadishu, whether anti-government or pro-government, are illegal and will not be allowed,” said Internal Security Minister Hassan Hundubey Jima’le in a news conference in Mogadishu.

The announcement comes after the Kenya and UAE puppets opposition presidential candidates, led by former Al-Shabaab commander Sharif Sheikh Ahmed, said they will continue to hold protests and called a fresh anti-government rally on Friday supported by Kenya and UAE.

“This is a political issue that needs political discussion. They are now dangerously using the public for the sake of a political agenda. This is dangerous and has to stop immediately,” said a Somali elder in the Hawiye community fed up of the civil war started in 1991.

The Hawiye clan leaders told Somali Times that they do not support Kenya and UAE protesters because Somalia has a maritime case with Kenya due to in-court ICJ on 19th March 2021 and all the Kenya and UAE puppets opposition presidental candidates are supporting Kenya.
