Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Mohamed Abdirizak Mohamoud met with Kenya’s Ambassador to Somalia Lucas Tumbo in Mogadishu to discuss strengthening ties between the two countries.

The two officials also discussed the arrangements for a meeting of the Joint Commission for Somalia-Kenya Cooperation, which was part of the outcome of a meeting between the Somali Prime Minister and the President of Kenya in Nairobi on August 2021.

On 8 August, the Foreign Ministers of Somalia and Kenya, meeting in Mogadishu, agreed to expedite the third session of the Joint Commission, to further enhance cooperation in the areas of Trade, Investment, Security, Defense, Agriculture and Tourism, strengthening relations between the two countries.

Kenya’s president recently said relations between the two countries could deteriorate, after the International Court of Justice ruled in favor of Somalia in the disputed territorial waters.

Kenya Ambassador and the Kenyan leaders accepted the results of the International Court of Justice ruling between the two countries’ sea boundaries.
