Somalia: Kenya’s decision on flights destination is politically motivated

The Federal Government of Somalia is deeply concerned by the decision reached by the Kenyan government to divert Mogadishu flights destined for Nairobi via Wajir. The Federal Government believes this action places undue burden on Somali citizens and foreign travelers while also creating unnecessary barriers to trade and movement of people between the two countries.

The Somali Federal Government observes that this decision is politically motivated, unneighborly, and is against our traditional tenets of good neighborliness and strong bilateral relations. The Federal Government stands to protect and safeguard its sovereignty and the dignity and well being of its citizens and thus calls on the Kenyan government to reconsider its decision,

The Federal Government will, in the meantime, work with all relevant authorities in order to resolve this issue and take appropriate action as deemed necessary.
