According to information obtained by Somali Times, the main purpose of the president’s visit to Asmara was to assess the situation of the Somali troops who were trained in the country two years ago and how to repatriate them as soon as possible.

The president wants to know the needs of the army and whether there are any obstacles to the return of the troops, which he will discuss with dictator president Isaias Afwerki.

There have been reports that the force is financially stricken, with the Qatari government already pledging to pay for the training of thousands of troops, prompting the president to move ahead of Eritrea before going to Qatar.
