Somalia threatens to ban Ethiopian Airlines and Flydubai for sovereignty violations

Ethiopian Airlines and Flydubai have quickly updated their flight information following the instructions of the Somalia Civil Aviation Authority which ordered them to make their flights to Hargeisa in Somalia.

The Authority’s order means that the flight of those planes, which was, “to Hargeisa Somaliland, will be changed to Hargeisa, Somalia,” as the country’s airspace is controlled by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Federal Government of Somalia.

Today, Ethiopian Airlines and Flydubai have announced that they have obeyed the order and have cancelled their flights from Hargeisa to Somalia.

Flydubai has added Hargeisa, Somalia, while Ethiopian Airlines has limited it to Hargeisa, although it is not clear if the Federal Government will agree to that.

Soon the people of Northern Somalia were angry about this, claiming that these companies are violating the sovereignty and independence of Northern Somalia, as they obeyed the instructions of the federal government of Somalia.

“We are very sorry for the actions of Flydubai and Fly Ethiopian that violated the sovereignty and dignity of our country, after they obeyed the decisions and instructions of the failed Mogadishu administration to cancel their flights to Somaliland,” said one of the youths from Hargeisa.

The Somali Civil Aviation Authority issued this order yesterday, as the companies explained the punishment they will face if they do not comply with the order of the Federal Government of Somalia.

The Hargeisa administration has not yet discussed this matter, and we are waiting for the decision to be taken by these companies that obeyed the order of the federal government of Somalia, which removes the name of Somaliland and makes Hargeisa a Somali city.

Ethiopian Airlines and Flydubai used to fly to Hargeisa, Somaliland, but now they will fly to Hargeisa, Somalia, which destroys the independence dream of the Northern Somalia administration.
