The latest in Mogadishu: Car bomb targets three Turkish nationals in Afgooye

Three people were killed and about 20 others injured Saturday following a car bomb explosion in Afgooye area. An explosives-laden car blew up near a food café in Afgooye with initial reports indicating it was targeting Turkish contractors who are involved in road construction in the area. Sources told Somali Times the car rammed into a café where the Turkish engineers and Somali police were having lunch.

The attack comes barely three weeks after a truck loaded with explosives exploded at a checkpoint in Ex-Control area killing 95 people and injuring over 170 others. The militant group Al-Shabaab, which claimed responsibility in the December 28 attack said it was targeting the Turkish engineers. Two Turkish nationals who were involved in the road construction were killed in the attack. More to follow.
