The Somali President received a Kenyan delegation to discuss the maritime court case of Kenya-Somalia

The Somali President, Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo, met at Villa Somalia with Kenyan Minister of Interior, Fred Matiang’i, and received a message from the President of Kenya, Uhuru Kenyatta.

The president shared with the Kenyan delegation that arrived in the country the importance of achieving joint security, economic and political challenges to the two countries, and hoped that this dialogue and dialogue between the two countries would pave the way for strengthening. had the cooperation and the traditional relations between the two countries.



Kenyan Interior Minister Fred Matiang’i conveyed the greetings of President Uhuru Kenyatta, expressing his deep respect for his country and the Somali government.

This message, received by the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, lays the foundation for furthering and developing the bilateral cooperation framework and the mutual exchange of views, while ensuring stability and mutual interests at the regional level.

Kenya and Somalia had rocky relations most of last year especially since Somalia refused to withdraw a maritime boundary case at the International Court of Justice.

The ICJ will hear, and decide, the case this June but it remains uncertain whether that will close the chapter on the issue that has put the two neighbouring states at loggerheads, especially since there are political connotations to it. In February, Kenya angered Somalia by harbouring fugitive Jubaland security minister Abdirashid Hassan Abdinur.
