Turkey seizes over 200,000 cannabis roots

DIYARBAKIR, Turkey
Turkish security forces confiscated cannabis roots and hashish in southeastern Turkey, the local governorship said on Wednesday. Diyarbakir Governor’s Office said in a statement that the Turkish army conducted an anti-terror operation against PKK terrorists in Lice and Hani districts of the Diyarbakir province between Sept. 2 and 5.
A total of 218,500 cannabis roots and over 675 kilograms of hashish were seized during the operation jointly carried out by the Turkish military and police’s special operation forces. The statement said the operation was concluded at 03:00 a.m. local time (0000 GMT) on Wednesday.

An improvised explosive was also seized during the raids, it added. In its more than 30-year terror campaign against Turkey, the PKK — listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the EU — has been responsible for the deaths of some 40,000 people.
