Kenya’s security forces arrested two foreigners in Garisa while they were on their way to join the Al-Shabab terrorist group fighting in Somalia.

Officials said the two Tanzanian men, Abdirahman Shaffi Mkwatili, 25, and Sadam Jafari Kitia, 30, were arrested on Wednesday, July 12, in possession of a Swahili language book that they were using to guide their movement from Tanzania to Jilib.

According to the police, the suspects revealed that they were on their way to Somalia to join Al Shabab after being recruited and facilitated by their handlers in Tanzania.

The Kenyan police said that people who are being recruited to join Al Shabab or Daesh, are given travel guidelines to avoid communication while on the way, to avoid being suspected.

Police sources said their arrest comes two weeks after three other Tanzanians, namely Abdul Saif Salimu, Zuberi Ngare Mtondoo, and Seif Abdalla Juma, were arrested in the same area, after members of the public have shared their information with security agencies.

A Ugandan citizen was also recently arrested in Liboi, on his way to Somalia, and the police said that this was possible after the cooperation of the security agencies and the community.

The security agencies have also warned public transport operators to be alert and share any information about the activities of foreigners they suspect.
