The United States has told state Governors it cannot leave Mogadishu until an agreement is reached 2021 election.

The US Embassy in Somalia said in a statement posted on its Twitter account that the letter was addressed directly to the presidents of Puntland, Jubaland, Galmudug, Southwest and Hir Shabelle. The Somali people want an election now. You must stay in Mogadishu until an election agreement is reached. Failure is not an option, ”said the US embassy.

The US government has said it cannot accept another defeat in the election process.

The statement from the US embassy comes amid concerns over the convening of a conference called by President Mohamed Abdullah Farmajo, which is being run by the Somali government. So far the states have not spoken at the conference, but efforts are underway to hold it tomorrow.
