Somali Foreign Minister Mohamed Abdirizak Mohamud, who is in the United States, said in advance that he would meet with United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and the 15-member Security Council. The purpose of the meeting with the members of the Security Council was to brief them on the current situation in Somalia and to listen to their suggestions.

“My trip has several purposes. The first is to strengthen the relationship between Somalia and the United States and work on the expansion plan. As a new leader arrives, I will meet with the five official members and the ten rounds, then I will receive and will share a report on the situation in the country with the Secretary-General of the United Nations,” said Somali Foreign Minister Mohamed Abdirizak Mohamoud.

The minister said he met with some of the ambassadors of countries interested in Somalia, and discussed the situation in the country and the changes in the new year.

The Somali government is still seeking $40 million from the United Nations to hold elections.
