William Ruto announced the withdrawal of Kenya’s troops from Somalia

The President of Kenya, William Ruto, has announced that his government will begin to withdraw the Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) from Somalia in 2024, so that the country will be stable.

Speaking at an event to present the report on the migration situation in the East and Horn of Africa, the president noted that the number of Kenyan troops operating in Somalia will be reduced.

“We are working with our brothers in Somalia, even with the expectation that the army will be reduced next year, we have a concrete plan on how Somalia can continue as a government,” said the President.

In this plan, the president announced that it is part of the cooperation of different countries with Somalia before the troops are completely withdrawn.

Kenyan troops were deployed to Somalia during the government of the former president of Kenya, Mwai Kibaki. A month later, the Kenyan government agreed to work under the African Union mission in Somalia.
