Egypt, Qatar and European Union support Somalia’s territorial independence




The President of Egypt, Abdul Fattah al-Sisi, has promised that his country will support Somalia, despite the conflict arising from the agreement between Hargeisa administration northern Somalia and Ethiopia.

In a conversation with the President of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud, last night on the phone, Mr. al-Sisi said, “Egypt stands by the security and stability of Somalia,” according to Al-Sisi’s spokesman, Ahmed Famy.

The speaker added that the two leaders also discussed issues related to regional development and bilateral relations.

The president also spoke on the phone with the Emir of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad, who discussed the relationship between the two countries and matters of mutual interest, according to the Somali presidency.




The European Union also condemned the agreement between Hargeisa administration northern Somalia and Ethiopia urging them to respect the unity, nationalism, borders and territory of Somalia.

“This is key to peace and stability in the entire Horn of Africa region,” said a statement issued by the European Union.
