Prominent politician Farah Maalim, a former deputy speaker of the Kenyan parliament, has spoken out about the resumption of relations between Somalia and Kenya. Farah Maalim said the decision by the Somali government to cut ties with Kenya should not be rushed if it could not be upheld. He also criticized the resumption of the relationship, calling it “unfortunate”.

The former deputy speaker of the Kenyan parliament went on to say that the accusations against Somalia were still pending in Kenya, adding that it was an insult to those working to restore relations.

“Yesterday you cut the situation and the situation you are complaining about has not changed. It is much bigger. Now it is unfortunate that you are begging for your return today,” said the former deputy speaker of Kenya’s parliament.

He noted that Kenya was still interfering in Somalia’s internal affairs, Muse Bihi visit to Nairobi as well as opposition meetings in the country.

“One of the interventions in Somaliland is the arrival of Muse Bihi, Ahmed Madobe, Deni and all the opposition who are being held on a regular basis, to serve them,” he added.

Farah Maalim’s remarks and accusations against the Somali government came as a surprise to many, as he was one of the main supporters of the outgoing president, Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo.
