Farmajo rejects PM Roble sacking a partner in crime, spy chief Fahad Yasin

Outgoing President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo has opposed the Prime Minister’s dismissal of Somali spy chief Fahad Yasin.

A statement from the Somali presidency said:

Outgoing Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo after seeing the letter issued by the Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia Mohamed Hussein Roble regarding the dismissal of the Director of the Somali National Security Agency and the appointment of a Interim Commander.”

”When he saw; Articles 87 and 90 of the Provisional Constitution of the Federal Republic of Somalia which stipulate that the President of the Republic is the guardian and promoter of the basic principles of the Constitution, and is the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.”




”When he saw; Articles 97 and 100 of the Federal Government of Somalia’s Provisional Constitution guide the powers of the Executive and the role of the Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia in dismissing the Commanders of the Armed Forces, which is limited to proposing and implementing policy development activities, economy and governance.”

”The President of the Republic recognizes the importance of the National Security Agency to the security of the country and its role in countering the terrorist threat to Somalia and its international partners.”

The outgoing President maintains his responsibility to stop any action that may incite terrorist groups and undermine the reputation and role of the security services.




He produced the following;

1. The decision of the Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia Mohamed Hussein Roble is to be illegal and unconstitutional.

2. The Commander of the National Security and Intelligence Agency, Mr. Fahad Yasin, is instructed to continue to lead the National Security and Intelligence Agency, in accordance with the Constitution and the Presidential Decree.

3. The National Security and Intelligence Agency is instructed to present to the National Security Council the expected report at the time of the first meeting of the National Security Council.

4. Finally, the President of Somalia instructs Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble and the Council of Ministers to effectively fulfill their responsibility to complete the electoral process.

Sources told Somali Times the vehicle which Ikran Tahlil Farah boarded on the evening of June 26th, 2021 was a vehicle registered to the Somali spy agency.
