Former Al-Shabaab commander and a current presidential candidate Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed, who is also the chairman of the Union of Opposition Candidates, today spoke strongly about the political situation in the country and the consultative meeting between government officials and authorities in Dhusamareb.

Former Al-Shabaab commander Sheikh Sharif said that at this time only the presidential election was left, while other elections would have taken place, which he described as unfortunate. He also warned of a civil war in Somalia. He said the opposition Union Council was disappointed that no formal agreement had been reached on the election, as the government’s term had expired.

He also vowed not to accept an extension of the Dhusamareb conference, saying only a “political agreement” could be reached, and that it was important to uphold the country’s laws and constitution.
