The president of Jubaland state Ahmed Mohamed Islam Ahmed has arrived in Garowe, the capital of Puntland state, where he was warmly welcomed. Ahmed Islam will be accompanied by members of his administration. Mohamed Bashir welcomed President Said Abdullahi Deni and other officials and was escorted to the Presidential Palace.

The purpose of the Ahmed Islam trip is to hold a meeting with his Puntland counterpart, Mr. Said Abdullahi Mohamed (Deni). According to reports, the conference will focus on the political situation in the country, especially the upcoming 2020/2021 elections.

Jubaland and Puntland have stated their opposition to the outcome of the Summit, saying that the Government has not implemented the agreements reached at the Dhusamareb 1 and 2 conferences, and during his stay in Garowe the President of Jubaland will hold various meetings with intellectuals and politicians.

The meeting comes at a critical time as there is a dispute over the type of elections to be held in the country, and it is believed that Ahmed Islam and Deni are two leaders who are very united in their decisions while in other regional administrations have made several changes to their electoral positions and the transition situation in the country. It is also possible that some leaders of the country’s opposition parties who are also opposed to the central government will join the conference in Garowe.
