Puntland: Since Puntland was established in 1998, which only have one community president Mohamoud Salebaan until now.

Political Parties are seriously concerned about the reliability of the judiciary by the Constitution and the lack of treatment, as Puntland is preparing to move to a multi-party democratic system.

Speaking at a meeting organized by the Electoral Commission, political party officials said that, given the recent developments in the judiciary, they have raised doubts and concerns about the political parties’ race in the upcoming elections.

“If we look at the events that have taken place, what could be the implications for the organizations. Can we rely on the current judiciary? Can we trust the constitution? Who is advocating for the organizations?” said the political parties.

Puntland plans to hold the first by-elections in July this year in which political parties will contest local council elections in three pilot districts.

Puntland’s judiciary has come under fire for lifting the immunity of eight members of the Puntland parliament, who have been accused of creating chaos inside the parliament building.

A few days ago, the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights issued a statement calling for a return to the process of lifting the immunity of parliamentarians, saying that the constitutional provisions had been ignored.
