Puntland expresses deep concern over the political situation in Somalia

Puntland has expressed deep concern over what it called the political turmoil in Somalia and the worsening state-building process and created by corrupt Somalia president Hassan Sheikh and his family.

A press release from the Puntland presidency said that corrupt President Hassan Sheikh is violating agreements and constitutional provisions, which Puntland described as a potential political collapse.

Puntland welcomed the calls from the Salvation Forum, calling on President Hassan Sheikh to step down so that a unified agreement can be reached on parliamentary and presidential elections, and before that time, it is important to discuss how the country can move towards inclusive elections.

The statement from Puntland stated that the president’s term ends on May 15, 2026. Puntland, on the other hand, warned President Hassan Sheikh against interference by political organizations that stand for the government’s reform.

Puntland also supported holding the country’s elections in accordance with the Constitution, and warned against anything that threatens the country’s security and political stability.
