Somalia Ambassador to the United Nations chairs the UN General Assembly

Somalia’s Ambassador to the United Nations, Mr. Abukar Osman, who was recently elected as the Vice President of the 75th session of the UN General Assembly took over the chairmanship of part of the 75th session of the General Assembly. The conference is large and by 2020 most world leaders will be participating online.




This year’s conference also focused on the impact of Coivid-19 on all human beings, the steps governments are taking to fight it and the economic consequences. In Somalia, the conference was attended by the Acting Prime Minister, Mahdi Mohamed Guled Khadar, who briefed the Council on the situation in the country.

Mahdi Guled spoke about the upcoming elections, The political agreement, the economic impact of COVID-19 in Somalia and the government’s focus on controlling the disease. However, Somalia was elected in June 2020 as one of the 21 Vice Presidents of the 75th session of the UN General Assembly, a position that was last held in 1979.
