Somalia’s Finance Minister has for the first time said it has cut off international aid, leaving the economy in short supply.
Somalia’s Minister of Finance Abdirahman Duale Beyle said that in recent months they have been paying a small amount of money from the governments of Saudi Arabia and Qatar, but have been cut off from all other international aid to the government.
“In August, we were cut off from international subsidies. We have been paying salaries in recent months from the governments of Saudi Arabia and Qatar, and they are now in short supply and we are on the ground,” Beyle said.
The minister called on the Somali people to support the government financially and to consult. It is the first time the government has announced a cut in the global economy.
