The President of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud, has confirmed that he will travel to Ethiopia, which is currently in a state of tension with Somalia as a result of the maritime agreement between Ethiopia and Hargeisa administration.

Instead of Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud going to Ethiopia he could send the foreign minister or prime minister he might be negotiating with Abiy Ahmed about the maritime boundary.

President Hassan Sheikh said he will attend the African Union summit in Addis Ababa, and other meetings of IGAD and EAC.

The President said that he will send the message that the independence and sovereignty of Somalia should not be violated.

He said that Somalia has a strong position on the agreement that Ethiopia wants to take part of Somalia’s sea.

“The issue of Ethiopia that has been moving its position to our place. And it is a position that is difficult to give up to be invisible. Entering our country is an impossible dream, we have already told you. We are sharing that message with the world,” said the president.
The president said this in Kismayo, where he visited yesterday.
However, senior diplomats from the United States and the African Union are trying to talk to the president of Somalia and the prime minister of Ethiopia in order to find a solution to the maritime crisis.
