The Somali regional state of Puntland has spoken out about the decision of the Somalia president Hassan Sheikh kicks off a civil war again in Jubaland 2024, which issued a resolution the night before against the Jubaland elections and a decision to prosecute leader of Jubaland Ahmed Mohamed Islam.

The Minister of State for the Presidency of Puntland, Abdifitaah Abdinur, in a written statement, strongly opposed the measures taken by the central government against Jubaland, such as the deployment of troops to the administration and the decision of the cabinet.

“The troops deployed yesterday in areas of Jubaland and the government’s decision last night to prosecute President Ahmed Madobe show authoritarian behavior and abuse of power.” said Abdifitaah Abdinur.

The Minister of State for the Presidency of Puntland also indicated that these measures are dangerous for the country and could lead to civil war that could affect the process of state-building in Somalia.

“These steps pose a serious threat to the ongoing state-building process and could easily fuel tensions and conflicts among Somali clans,” the Minister of State for the Presidency of the Puntland administration reiterated.

He also added, “It is necessary for the government to take strong steps to restore the hope of the nation and actively promote the work of national unity and peace in the region.”

Puntland previously supported yesterday’s election in Kismayo, which re-elected President Ahmed Madobe, but the central government has rejected it, calling it illegitimate, and has taken steps to prevent the administration.
