The latest: Farmajo and Uhuru meet

Somalia’s President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo and his Kenyan counterpart Uhuru Kenyatta sat down together. The president has brought together the meeting which was attended by the President of Djibouti Ismail Omar Guelleh and Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ethiopia, trying to resolve the crisis in the conflict.

The meeting between Farmajo and Uhuru the two presidents is mediating by Abiy, Guelleh the diplomatic rift between the two countries, after Somalia cut ties with Kenya, accusing it of interference.

According to our sources, this meeting is a prelude to a forthcoming general meeting of all IGAD Heads of State. The purpose of the brief meeting between Farmajo and Uhuru is to ensure that the IGAD Summit does not affect the sensitive speeches of the two Presidents.



The federal government recently filed a lawsuit against Kenya with IGAD, making the summit’s agenda part of the crisis between Kenya and Somalia. Meanwhile, prior to the meeting, a private meeting was held between Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo and Ethiopian Prime Minister Abi Ahmed.

The two leaders discussed the situation in the region and recent events in the country, according to sources.

Abiy and Farmajo, who have a deep friendship, also reportedly discussed the Tigrean War and how to strengthen ties between IGAD member states. President Farmajo also shared Abiy’s grievances with the Kenyan government, which has cut ties with Somalia.
