At least 35 people were killed and close to 120 injured in a truck bombing attack in Ex-Control area in the outskirts of Mogadishu.

The Ministry of Information said in a statement 35 people were killed, but multiple sources indicate the death toll was much higher. Mogadishu mayor Omar Filish told reporters at the scene of the incident those injured were 120 but said he would later release the official death toll. The majority of the casualties were Banadir University students and school students, the mayor said.

Omar Filish who also doubles as Banadir Regional Administration, Governor said the truck loaded with explosives was heading to the capital Mogadishu but was stopped by security forces. Initial reports had indicated the truck was targeting a branch of the inland revenue department. Several vehicles which were on traffic were destroyed as the fire raced down structures in the areas as fear gripped the locality.
