Additional troops have been deployed on all roads leading to the Somali Presidential Palace, with lawmakers scheduled to convene at Villa Hargeisa on Monday.

The meeting was attended by members of parliament and it was said that the agenda of the meeting will be a motion related to the upcoming elections in Somalia.

There are doubts that the Speaker of Parliament will later vote on the motion, resulting in a long-discussed extension.

Recently, the Somali government said that a series of meetings between the federal government and regional leaders on election issues had ended in failure, and accused the presidents of Puntland and Jubaland of being responsible for the failed talks, according to Somali officials.

On several previous occasions, parliamentary sessions were called off, with opposition lawmakers saying a two-year extension was planned.
