The members of the House of the People of the Federal Parliament of Somalia have tonight been sent a message informing the speaker that there will be a meeting on Monday in the house, and the agenda of the meeting will include Farmajo’s extension of two years in office and the 2021 national elections.

On Monday, April 12, 2021, concerns are already mounting that an extension of the term of the outgoing president and parliament will take place tomorrow. If this extension occurs many people think it will not be less than two years.

Monday’s session of parliament came at a time when there have been reports in recent days that the president is seeking an extension. Talks between the federal government and state leaders have also stalled in recent days, and in recent days there have been accusations of failure.

The international community has repeatedly said it will not support the consequences of an extension or an unconstitutional election, but it is unclear what will happen if an extension is granted to President Farmajo and the 10th parliament tomorrow.

“We reaffirm our decision not to support any process of parallel elections, one-sided elections or any new initiative that could lead to any extension of the previous term,” he said.
