The United Nations, the European Union and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) have stated in a statement that they will respect the sovereignty of Somalia.
A joint statement issued by the United Nations, the European Union, IGAD and the African Union said it was important to respect Somalia’s territorial integrity.
The statement comes as the Somali government recently sent a letter to the United Nations urging it not to interfere in Somalia’s internal affairs, especially in elections. In a statement, they said they respected Somalia’s territorial integrity, unity and political independence, and called on political leaders to compromise.
