The Somali government has received from the Turkish government an armored vehicle for the Somali National Army’s Gorgor, which is assisting in operations against Al-Shabab. The Turkish ambassador to Somalia said the armored vehicles were part of Turkey’s continued military support to the Somali government since 2015.

The Commander of the Armed Forces, Gen. Odowa Yusuf Rage, and the Minister of State for Defense, Mohamed Ali, thanked Turkey for the armored vehicles, saying it would play a key role in the fight against Al-Shabab.

Turkey has been at the forefront of supporting Somalia militarily and rebuilding the Somali national army since its collapse.

Soon, Turkey will host the tenth batch of Somalia troops to train in the country.
