UN sent a high delegation to Mogadishu after the failure of Hassan Sheikh’s government




A senior delegation from the United Nations arrived in Mogadishu, led by Mrs. Rosemary A DiCarlo, who is the deputy secretary general of the UN for political affairs and peace building.

Mrs. Rosemary A DiCarlo was welcomed at the Mogadishu airport by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Ahmed Moalim Fiqi, and the acting Special Representative of the United Nations in Somalia, Amb. James Swan, welcomed.

Minister Fiqi, who had a special meeting with Mrs. DiCarlo, reported on recent developments in Somalia, especially in the field of security.

They also discussed the process of Somalia’s transition towards the African Union Transitional Mission (AUSSOM), with the minister expressing hope that the UN Security Council will consider Somalia’s proposals.

Mrs DiCarlo for her part, promised that full support will be extended to the Somalia group in the United Nations Security Council, which Minister Fiqi welcomed.

Somalia’s foreign minister indicated that the group will work in New York as well as the foreign ministry.

However, the delegation’s visit comes a day after the Prime Minister’s Office announced that the National Consultative Assembly meeting will be held at the end of this month, with the absence of the Presidents of Jubaland and Puntland.
