President Farmajo convenes another meeting of Benadir and regional leaders

The president of Somalia’s federal government Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo has again convened a meeting of Benadir and regional leaders in Garowe. The meeting is said to be aimed at implementing the agreement reached by the National Consultative Council in Mogadishu on 17 September 2020.

The meeting, called by the president, comes days after the Dhusamareb conference was called off due to disagreements over the Gedo region, where the federal government and Jubaland are still at loggerheads.



Meanwhile, the president of Somalia met with the speaker of the House of the People at the presidential palace. Sources told Somali Times the meeting President and the speaker of the House of the People discussed the situation in the country and the ongoing activities, with the prime minister of Somalia scheduled to address the parliament tomorrow.

The meeting called by the president comes at a time when the president’s term ends on February 8, four years after he was elected.

President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo is in charge until the leaders agree in the 2021 election.
