A statement from the African Union Mission in Somalia has expressed concern over recent reports in local media that African Union police are involved in providing security at polling stations in Jubaland.

The African Union foeces statement stated that its mission underscores its neutrality in the conflict between Jubaland and the Federal Government, and called for a peaceful resolution to the political dispute between the two parties.

The statement also stated that “the African Union Mission in Somalia urges all relevant parties, including the Federal Government and the Jubaland administration, to engage in dialogue to end the political conflict in order to achieve a meaningful and inclusive resolution to the conflict”.

African Union forces has stated that it will continue to fulfill its mandate to fully support the Somali state-building process, including efforts to move towards one-person, one-vote elections through an inclusive and participatory process.
