Former Somali President Farmajo says Hassan Sheikh violated the country’s transitional federal constitution

Former Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo has accused President Hassan Sheikh of violating the Transitional Federal Constitution, warning of the danger of favouring factionalism over unity and the common good, putting the country in a dangerous situation that undermines unity and stability.

In a statement issued by President Farmajo, he openly said Somali President Hassan Sheikh of deliberately violating the provisions of the Constitution, including Articles 87, 50, 92 and 65.

All of these provisions clearly define the obligation to protect the constitution and the unity of the country, the role of the National Consultative Forum in making fateful decisions, the federalization process of the country, and the duties of the Speaker of Parliament, who cannot be a member of a political party or organization.

Farmajo called on President Hassan Sheikh to fulfill the long-awaited National Consultative Conference promise, expand the council, lead the country in unity and solidarity, and return to legitimacy and inclusive politics that can lead the country to the current situation.

“In particular, I urge the President to reverse the unilateral steps that are causing the conflict, including the suspension of the elected constitution, the work on unfinished laws and electoral commissions, and the dismantling of the National Consultative Forum, which has created political deadlock that could have been avoided,” Farmajo’s statement said.

Former Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo has described the use of state property for political campaigns and private organizations as unfortunate, illegally benefiting the armed forces, the national media, and even civil servants.

He concluded his statement by urging President Hassan Sheikh to seek out the regional governments that were absent from the National Consultative Forum meetings, to ensure a consensus, and to allow the regional government elections to be held by the heads of the regional governments that are currently in power.
