The first city in the United States to elect a female Somali-American mayor.

Nadia Mohamed defeated Dale A. Anderson by a majority vote, becoming the first Somali-American to be elected mayor and the first black mayor of St. Louis Park.

Nadia, who is 27 years old, also became the first person of Somali origin to win the mayoral election in the United States.

Nadia Mohamed campaigned for investment in community policing and programs to make homeownership more affordable. She was endorsed by Mayor Jake Spano, who did not seek re-election.

“This election, of course, is more important than we have ever known, and I am truly grateful for the opportunity to lead our city,” Nadia told hundreds of her supporters.

The current mayor of St. Louis Park, who said that he will not run for the third time, supported Nadia Mohamed, before Nadia announced her candidacy in April this year.

Nadia Mohamed defeated rival candidate Dale Anderson, a professor at the University of Minnesota, with more than 58% of the votes counted.
