Somalia Jubaland calls both houses of MPs for consultation

After Jubaland officially declared its position on the elections on Thursday night and denounced the meeting they left in Mogadishu, it is planned to call the MPs of the two Houses elected from Jubaland for consultation.

According to Somali Times, most of the MPs elected from Jubaland have turned their backs on Prime Minister Hamse Abdi Barre, who is also from Jubaland, which is a blow to his leadership in the Hassan Sheikh’s government.

The President of Jubaland, Ahmed Mohamed Islam, is preparing to hold an election that is believed to be his own. Jubaland elections are always controversial within the federal government. Ahmed Islam who was an Islamic militant returned to Kismayo in 2012 with the support of Kenya Defence forces, after which he announced the establishment of Jubaland as an interim administration and confronted President Hassan Sheikh.

In 2013, an agreement was reached between the federal government and Jubland in Addis Ababa. When the interim period ended in 2015, he won an election. He was re-elected in 2019 which caused a lot of controversy.

The constitution of Jubaland was recently changed to state that no more than two terms can be elected president and it was left open term.
