The President of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud, who recently held a press conference at the Presidency, announced that our maritime boundary is being defended by Turkey, which means that the security of our sea has been handed over to Turkey, which has strong military power.

President Hassan Sheikh has announced that the defence agreement with Turkey will last for 10 years, and during that period, the construction of the Somali navy will be parallel.

He said that the defence agreement with Turkey will never be hostile to another government, but Turkey is urging Somalia to protect its sea and its resources.

“Whatever is illegal, they must protect us. We have entered into an agreement with Turkey, not to invade or fight with another third country,” said President Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud.

“He will give birth in the end and after ten years we will have a navy that can defend our waters, and in the meantime our brothers will defend us from the sea and protect us from illegal things.”

Finally, he mentioned that he hopes that the government of Abiy Ahmed will withdraw the false agreement signed by Addis Ababa and Hargeisa for parts of the Somali Sea.
