Somalia’s election Mohamed Famajo can he survive 32 candidates have registered their candidacy for the Somali presidency, with 22 of the presidential candidates including President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo registering on Monday. It is the highest number of presidential candidates in Somalia’s history.
On Sunday, ten candidates put forth their candidacy on the first day of registration. They are Sharif Sheikh Ahmed, Dahir Mohamud Gelle, Hasan Ali Abdirahman, Abdulkadir Osoble Ali, Bashir Haji Ali, Abdi Ali Hassan, Abdi Nur Sheikh Mohamed, former Somali prime minister Hassan Ali Khaire.
Each candidate paid a $40,000 registration fee that the electoral commission collected. So far, $1,280,000 was raised from registrations. And no one knows where the money come from. Somalia is the most corrupt country in the world ranking number one.
The election commission said that the deadline for registering the candidacy is Tuesday at 4:00 PM local time. The presidential election will be held Sunday, May 15, at the Afisioni Tent in Mogadishu.
