What came out of the meeting between Farmajo and the Emir of Qatar?




The President of Somalia, Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo, who was warmly welcomed by the Council of the Emir of Qatar, met today with the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.

President Mohamed Farmajo and EmirTamim discussed a number of issues related to the future of bilateral relations and common interests in regional stability and development, in order to further strengthen the broad-based cooperation between Somalia and Qatar.




The two leaders agreed on the completion of Qatari development projects in Somalia and the construction of infrastructure that is crucial for the overall economic recovery of Somalia.

They also focused on the movement of goods and people, the development of primary education in Somalia and the rebuilding of the Armed Forces.

The Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad thanked the President and his delegation for accepting the invitation and welcomed his government’s role in responding to the drought in Somalia.

Qatar will prioritize emergency relief and sustainable solutions including investment in Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries that will create employment opportunities for Somali youth and address the recurring drought in the country.

Finally, the President and his delegation thanked the Emir and his Council for the warm welcome, their role in rebuilding the Somali Armed Forces and implementing the fast-growing infrastructure projects in the country.
