The outgoing President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo and the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani had a telephone conversation, according to Somali officials told Somali Times.
Mr Mohamed Farmajo congratulated the Emir of Qatar on the occasion of Eid al-Adha. Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo and the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani also exchanged greetings, wished the two countries and all Muslims success and prosperity for the rest of this year.
The talks between the outgoing president and the Emir of Qatar came amid reports that Qatar has financial support for Farmajo’s election campaign. Somalia and Qatar have good relations, and it is believed that Qatar funded Farmajo during his campaign before he was elected president of Somalia in 2017.
