The Puntland government has announced its commitment to convincing the United Nations and all donor agencies in Somalia to deal directly with it. Puntland demands UN projects be directed to its institutions, not corrupt Somalia president Hassan Sheikh and his family.

Puntland Information Minister Mahmoud Aided Dirir, speaking at the conference approving Puntland’s five-year plan, said that Puntland has mature institutions that are accountable and have been tested for their performance and implementation capacity, and that this will contribute to the world’s direct engagement with it.

Mahmoud Aideed said that Puntland ranks first in the evaluation of grants that have been tested in Somalia, and that this will contribute to being entrusted with leading projects.

“We must convince the international community to channel what they are providing in the form of grants through Puntland government institutions, because we are an example to the world with the projects given to Somalia and how Puntland has implemented its part,” said Minister Dirir.
