Somalia: Five MPs resign from Northeastern parliament

Five MPs from the Northeastern Parliament have officially announced their resignation from parliament, stating that they have also renounced the political vision that was the basis for the establishment of the administration.

MP Makhtal Said Mahmoud, who spoke on behalf of the resigned MPs, told outlet media that their decision is final, and was made by him, MP Ahmed Ali Mohamed, MP Saadiq Jama Muse, MP Ahmed Caabi Hassan and MP Abdisalan Abdilaahi Amo.

“Speaking on my own behalf and their behalf, I declare that we have fully resigned from the membership of the Northeastern Parliament. This decision is final,” said Makhtal.

They said that the main reason for their resignation is that, as he put it, they have deviated from the vision on which the administration was established.

“The reason we established the administration was to provide services and government processes that benefit the community, but it has become an administration below the level of a government agency. The administration has fallen into the hands of Abdulqadir Firdhiye and Abdirashid Abwaan, and the community is treated as they wish,” he said.




Makhtal added that the resigned MPs plan to announce today their new political direction and the city they will base themselves in.

The resignation comes after Fahima Yusuf Quje, a former member of the Northeastern Parliament, recently resigned from her position and returned to Hargeisa.
