The Somali government has called the formation of a joint commission to work on ways to restore diplomatic relations with Kenya. ”The Somali Ministry of Foreign Affairs reaffirms its commitment to the resumption and acceleration of Kenya’s diplomacy, trade and relations,” the Somali foreign ministry said in a statement.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation welcomed the re-opening of Kenya. Kenya had taken its starting point of negotiations and aims to make normal relations between the two countries.

The statement came after Kenya lifted its almost-a-month ban on flights to and from Somalia, citing a diplomatic row between the two neighboring countries. For its part, Somalia said the reopening of the airspace is an important step forward for trade, communications and movement of citizens between the two countries.
