The political tension between the Hassan Sheikh his team and the Jubaland administration has intensified, after the talks between corrupt president Hassan Sheikh and Jubaland president Ahmed Mohamed Islam Madobe ended in failure. The two sides have not been able to agree on issues related to the recognition of the 2024 Jubaland elections and the way to approach the political changes in that administration.

Emerging reports indicate that the Hassan Sheikh and his team is planning to establish a new administration for the rest of Jubaland, which will be implemented in the territory controlled by the federal government, especially in the Gedo region. This plan is said to be seen by the Hassan Sheikh and his team as a political solution to accelerate local administration, while reducing the influence of Ahmed Madobe.

Nasir Egeh, advisor to the Somali Prime Minister Hamse Abdi Barre, confirmed the plan, saying that there is no reason to return to the failed talks. He indicated that the government should prepare to establish a new leadership that works for the interests of the people of Jubbaland, accusing Ahmed Madobe of following “foreign countries.”

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s visit to Kismayo yesterday was initially seen as an attempt to end the conflict between the two sides, but the meeting ended in a stalemate. The Jubbaland president insisted that he would not give up on his re-election bid in 2024, while President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud chose not to recognize the election and presidency of Ahmed Madobe, further fueling the conflict between the two sides.
