Somalia says no mediation until Ethiopia reverses illegal accord

The Somalia government has said that there is no place to mediate the conflict between Ethiopia, unless Addis Ababa cancels the controversial agreement it entered into with the Hargeisa administration.

“There will be no mediation until Ethiopia reverses the illegal agreement and reaffirms Somalia’s territorial independence,” said a statement from Somalia’s foreign ministry, which was released placed on the official social media of the ministry.

This news came after the African Union’s conflict resolution committee discussed the crisis on Wednesday and called on the two countries to restrain each other and promote meaningful dialogue to find a peaceful solution.

The IGAD regional organization also held an extraordinary meeting in Uganda on Thursday, where the conflict between Ethiopia and Somalia was discussed, and Ethiopia’s violation of Somalia’s territory was condemned.
