The MPs, who issued a press release, the president of blatantly violating the country’s constitution and failing to fulfil his constitutional duties, while the country faces extremely difficult security, economic, and humanitarian situations.

The MPs said that President Hassan Sheikh had reneged on his March 29, 2025, pledge to bring together Somali political and cultural leaders for a national dialogue. They also accused him of failing to demonstrate responsible leadership in addressing the current state of emergency in the country, preferring, they said, to pursue policies that are further alienating the Somali people.

The lawmakers also accused the president of eliminating the independence of government institutions and committing widespread abuse of power, corruption, and mismanagement, which they said had led to political alienation and injustice.

The lawmakers said that many secret agreements were signed in the name of the government, which were not shared with the Parliament and the people. They also noted that he has consistently violated the country’s constitution, which they said could be grounds for impeachment.

The statement also noted that the president has openly dismantled the National Consultative Forum and is exerting political pressure on the regional governments, especially Puntland and Jubaland.
